    My Mission

“I have two jobs with each of my patients. The first is obvious; to help each person understand what is going on with them, why they are struggling and what they can do to help themselves. I have to really listen – wisely and compassionately – so that I can glimpse into their true self and see their core strength. My most important job is to help my clients once again experience their own core strength.”

Let's work together on your journey.

    My Experiences

My clients see the world in totally different ways than I do. Every day I think about how my clients live their lives without being able to read or write in any language. I have learned a great deal about how the brain works and why trauma, psychological problems and medical issues interfere with the ability to learn in real time. Until I opened Multi-Cultural Care most of my work was in family practice medical clinics. I even spent five years training medical residents. In these jobs I learned how health problems impact psychological problems and how psychological problems impact health. I also have seen the impact of my clients poor medical care in their native countries. I never underestimate the impact of chronic pain, stigma, disease, and disability on my client’s functioning. I tell my clients that once they have crossed the threshold to my office I am here to help them in anyway I can. As a result, my clients trust that I have their best interest at heart. Together we work to figure out how each of them can thrive in the US.

    My cultural experiences

I have successfully worked cross-culturally with clients identifying themselves as Amharic, Anuak, Bengali, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, Cuban, Ecuadorian, Egyptian, Salvadoran, Eritrean, Guyanese, Hmong, Iranian, Iraqi, Karen, Kenyan, Korean, Kurdish, Latino, Latvian, Liberian, Hispanic, Native American, Oromo, Palestinian, Peruvian, Russian, Somali, Sri Lankan, Sudanese, Tamil, Tibetan, Tongan, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. I have a number of American born clients.

    My Process

My process is a combination of psychosynthesis, DBT (dialectic behavior therapy), health psychology, strength based therapy, psychotherapeutic education and HRM (holographic memory resolution). As part of my assessment process I use a variety of cognitive tests that make sense culturally and specific psychological evaluation tools to clarify the extent of any emotional issues. I have a special interest in using forgiveness in therapy and have completed a forgiveness specialty training program.

    “We are not afraid.”

This mosaic made by Twin Cities mosaic artist Lori Greene hangs in my office. The story behind it is important. Her parents said this statement to each other every day as they were leaving their Southern home during the Civil Rights era. Her parents were African American and their lives were threatened. I have this sign in my office to remind me that all of my clients have gone through unthinkable tragedy and that together they and me do not need to be afraid. Together we can heal and move forward with hope.
